Recent Works in Transition
Images of trees have found their way into my painting ever since I completed a series of works on paper titled Typical North American Trees back in the 1990s. The trees were depicted with black acrylic paint on Stonehenge. They assumed new identities as silhouettes centered on an imaginary horizon line. Many of these 2021works in transition contain a tree painted with Typical North American Trees in mind. Beyond trees, this work was the last series completed in the attic studio I used since leaving my job in an art department. So these pieces are transitional during a transition. There is an attempt at simplicity and balance, a stark contrast to the previous work completed during our serious isolation.
